Our History

St Peter the Fisherman Parish

Our Story

Mass was first celebrated at Lake Harmony in 1936 and was celebrated in various locations. Finally, a church was built, the first Mass offered on July 4, 1983. It remained a Mission church of the Immaculate Conception Church in Jim Thorpe under Fr. Robert Quinn. Fr. Chizmar then continued to care for the Mission until it was raised to a parish status on June 14, 1989 with Msgr. John Auchter as the founding Pastor. The Parish has grown and at present numbers about 550 families. Besides the registered families there are many visitors in this vacation area especially throughout the summer months and during the skiing season. We thank God for His past blessings and ask for His continued help and blessings on our Church of St. Peter the Fisherman.
